Ike Madu Maigrit PLC: What Americans Don’t Know About The Fourth Of July

As Americans celebrate their freedom on the Fourth of July, mostly are not aware of the day’s true meaning. All they know about is the Fourth of July is a celebration of fireworks and food.

But before commemorating Independence Day, Americans must first be freed from these popular myths about it.

As what Business Insider has listed, here are some facts about the Fourth of July that most Americans don’t know about.

The delegate from Massachusetts and was then the future president of the United States, John Adams, once wrote to his wife, “The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America.”

Adams was right until the Continental Congress revised the initial resolution and moved the date to the fourth of July. Copies that were distributed throughout the colonies were dated July 4, 1776, but the resolution wasn’t signed until August 2, 1977, according to Harvard University’s Declaration Resources Project research manager, Emily Sneff.

Another myth that people believe is that the Liberty Bell cracked on the same day of the Declaration of Independence Day. On his blog about historical myths, historian Joseph Coohill wrote: “On that day, lots of bells were rung to celebrate public readings of the Declaration, and the Liberty Bell was probably one of them.” The Independence Hall Association added, “We have no way of knowing for sure, though, since the state house steeple in which the bell was housed was kind of falling apart and under repair at the time.”
